The IMAT exam consists of 60 multiple-choice questions, each offering five possible answers. Candidates have 100 minutes to complete the exam, which does not permit any aids, such as calculators or dictionaries.

Scoring for the IMAT follows this system:

- Correct answer: +1.5 points

- Incorrect answer: -0.4 points

- Unanswered question: 0 points

The maximum score achievable on the exam is 90 points, which is categorized as follows:

- 4 points for reading skills and general knowledge

- 5 points for logical reasoning and problem-solving

- 23 points for biology

- 15 points for chemistry

- 13 points for maths and physics

To successfully apply, candidates must meet certain requirements:

1. Completion of 12 years of schooling prior to applying to a university. For instance, if you are currently in 11th grade and take the IMAT this year, your score will not be valid, even if you achieve a top score. Additionally, your grade will not be accepted the following year after high school.

2. Register (or pre-register) at your chosen university. This step is only necessary for a few universities.

3. Pre-enrollment is mandatory for all Non-EU candidates.

4. Complete IMAT registration at Universitaly.it and pay the exam fee.

5. Obtain the DOV or an equivalent certificate.

6. Obtain a study visa if you are a Non-EU candidate.

7. Enroll within the specified deadline once accepted. The deadline is particularly tight for EU candidates, which often leads to many applicants losing their spots.
